The seminar began with a theoretical teaching on basic principles of electrical engineering, power quality, nature and consequences of electrical disturbances such as lightning well asthe security ofpersons and the protection of electrical equipment.
By the second day, the theoretical session was supplemented by practical sessions in the laboratory, including electrical protection devices, earthing systems, emergency power systems, measurements of the ground resistivity and the earth connection.
A visit to Obala district hospital marked the fourth day. Indeed, Obala district hospital, endowed with a very complete technical platform highlights the typical electrical problems in hospitals: one of the most evident is that, most medical equipment are out of service and no less than seven fires were recorded during the previous year.
Using appropriate measuring devices and under the supervision of professionals, participants were able to make measurements that allowed them to evaluate and make recommendations for improving the quality of electrical ground and the quality of the electrical installation. They also learned how to conduct a comprehensive energy audit of a hospital.
The last day was devoted to the analysis of the data recorded by measuring devices placed at Obala district hospital. It was followed by the presentation of a systemicstudy methodologyfor energy efficiency. Many shortcomings were identified and solutions without major investments were equally suggested. These solutions would significantly improve the reliability of electricity supply and reduce consumption by approximately 30%. The presentation of the work of a dozen participants, leading to debates and collaborations tracks closed these scientific exchanges.
The closing of the seminar was made in the presence of Prof. Charles AWONO ONANA, Director of ENSPY, who praised the initiative of a research unit such as the CURES, while emphasizing on the importance of research and the need to share knowledge. Afterwards, each participant received a training certificate directly from the hands of Prof. Charles AWONO ONANA.
